PRO-D DAY SKATES

We are hosting development skates for “A1/A2” players U13 and U15 during educational professional development days and holidays with our high-performance staff and junior players.

Our goal is to provide an affordable high-performance training environment and experience for rep players who are seeking extra development; more specifically, an introduction to the coaching delivered and the skills required at the high-performance level.

Development includes developing the Individual Tactical Hockey IQ of the player, which is defined as: “the action by one player using one or a combination of technical skills in order to create an advantage or to take away the advantage of an opponent. A tactic may be classified as offensive or defensive  (e.g. 1-on-1 offensive fake and driving to the net)”. Source – Hockey Canada

Understanding how to collect as much information as possible to make the best possible decision facilitated through the high-performance environment (high-pace, high-compete)of practice, which will use simulated situations where success depends on the “What”, “When”, “Why”, “Where”, and “How.” Below is a breakdown of what to expect from each practice.

  • Repetition & Habits with a Purpose: A heavy focus will be placed on positional habits, recognizing positional advantages and disadvantages. Emphasis on the why and when to use certain skills which require high repetition to apply to real-game performance (Tryouts, and Fall/Regular season). Every drill is built with intention.
  • Encouraging Creativity and Adding More Tools in the Toolbox: Players will be challenged to think outside the box, try new moves, and learn when to take calculated risks, allowing them to widen the number of options at their disposal when making decisions with and without the puck
  • Striving to Outthink Opponents: Players will learn to identify both capabilities and limitations of their teammates and opponents such as size, speed, technical skill set, handedness, body language, and tendencies during a given situation – Assessing Risk, Threats, and Advantages.
  • The Next Evolution of Known Understanding of Individual Tactics: It’s not just about learning new things; it’s about refining what players already know and taking it one step further, and doing it at a high pace.
